Time Killers 1992 (Arcade)

Arcade Game | Posted by admin
May 02 2011

Released in 1992 by Strata and developed by Incredible Technologies for the arcades, Time Killers is a fighting game that attempted to cash in on the success of Mortal Kombat. One of my favorite aspects of this game and the only reason you’d ever play it is how damage is dealt with. Enough damage to a lib and it will be torn off. It is possible to have both arms torn off and if you manage to win, you will be awarded with an “Armless Victory”. Time Killers also features what I believe is the first ever one hit death in a fighting game. This game is incredibly gory and violent which brings tons of replay value when playing against others. Time Killers was eventually ported over to the Sega Genesis by another company but failed due to poor graphics and and playability.

While games like Grand Theft Auto 4 may be all the rage today with their advanced graphics and expansive maps, old school classics like Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, and Galaga haven’t become any less fun over the years. We went down to the Twiistup event in Santa Monica to speak to Steve Wiebe and Walter Day from the documentary movie, The King of Kong to find out why games that were made over two decades ago are still being played, and to get the scoop on Steve’s Donkey Kong world record attempt. We also took two steps outside our studio to speak to gamers at the Joystiq.com reader meetup, which was hosted at Mahalo’s HQ. Top 5 Computer Games Of All Time

Action | Posted by admin
Sep 29 2010

Before Playstation and Nintendo became the latest home entertainment craze, computers have offered an array of games that helped many pass the time. While basic gaming options, such as Solitaire and Minesweeper often came with a primary computer package, there have been plenty of satisfying game that hit the market, spanning many years of upgrades and sequels.

Some computer games have come and gone, but there are many that have proved a staying power, which has immensely evolved since the introduction of the 1962 gem, SpaceWar (the first game made for computer use). Below, you will find some of the most popular computer titles that have greatly influenced the gaming scene over the years:

Doom

Some may consider this computer title one of the best action games of all time, as it became the mold that many first-person shooter games would be cast from. The history of Doom begins in 1993 where the highly intense game was distributed as shareware to the public. Within two years, it is said that an estimated 10 million individuals downloaded the title. Known for its graphic nature and intense interactive violence, it was later made into a movie starring The Rock.

Tetris

There have been endless duplications, but none can compare to the original 1988 version that the Soviet Union produced as an attempt to keep up with the competitive American market. The game was quite simple; all you have to do is match falling blocks into spaces that made sense. Higher levels brought faster game play and before you knew it, you were hooked. Anyone who has played a computer or video game has definitely heard of Tetris, which is a classic that will last for many years to come.

Sim City

The concept of building your own city caught on like wildfire as gamers created their own domains from the floorboard up. Negotiating pipes, electricity, and running water were just some of the tasks that took hours and hours to master throughout this virtual world of wonder. The first Sim City game made an appearance in 1987 and ever since, has produced numerous spin-offs, such as Sim Safari, Sim Zoo, and Sim Roller Coaster.

Civilization

In 1993, Sid Meier put out the computer game, Civilization, which became an addictive joyride. There were so many different levels of fun to explore, as players learned the ins and outs of economics, diplomacy, and achieving conquests. One moment, you could be pondering the construction of the Pyramids while the next moment took you into the depths of space. Various sequels followed the original.

Monopoly

Many board games have made their way to the computer game world, but none have made such an impact like the dog-eat-dog concept of buying and selling real estate. The first Monopoly computer game was distributed in 1995 and hasn’t looked back since. With hundreds of variations, players no longer see Park Place and Boardwalk as the most expensive properties, but dive into alternate city-related themes that stretch from Chicago to Tokyo.

A Lesson In Online Gaming For Mom and Dad Just In Time For The Holidays

Action | Posted by admin
Aug 28 2010

Parents are wondering more then ever what are these terms my child is using? Well usually there getting these terms from the games you bought them that they play online with older and better people.

The days of playing board games are over at least until the power goes out. Kids do not want to play monopoly anymore; they want to play Gears of War and Halo 3 with all their friends online. That is what you will hear from them is, “Dad, I want an Xbox 360 for Christmas so I can play Halo3 online with other people so I don’t have to bug you to play with me.” That is sort of what you will hear at that time of the year.

If you have a computer and an internet connection you can start playing games today. Games like counterstrike and day of defeat and call of duty those are all games that you can play online with other people and have fun. You can actually talk to them and have conversations with people online where as playing by you gets boring and old fast.

The games that kids will play at school will be different then what they play at home. At school they will be playing simple flash games that they can download off the internet or just go to a site and start playing. Simple games like Bowman, simple Counterstrike and other games that will be allowed by the schools server is what they will play. Many kids nowadays know how to get around the schools server and do this everyday. I know when I was in school I got away with going around the servers easily all I did was go to Google and type in getting around proxy servers and so many websites popped up for gaming.

The last type of gaming that is taking over today’s gaming is shooter games. These games are becoming more and more popular because of the violence and role that they are able to play in the game. You can shoot someone and see blood go everywhere and they think it’s cool to play. Well I play Counterstrike and it’s not that bloody and gory all it is, is you playing against the terrorists online. I mean it is the number 1 rated online action game of today. No other game can compare to Counterstrike except those made from the same company as it. You just go online and start playing right away and before you know it you’re pretty good at it and then you become obsessed with it unlike many other people I am not obsessed with the game. People will sit there and play it for hours before they even flinch. That is obsessed and should be looked at by doctors as to why they cannot stop playing. People will play crazy hours like 50 or 60 hours a week I have even heard of people playing more than 100 hours a week.
